“PCF and SCF refers to Primary and Secondary Contributing Factors. At times you may have heard these called the drivers of pain. It can often be very overwhelming as a Clinician to try to determine where you should start your session, when a client describes multiple areas of pain. Neural Testing provides us with a very precise way of linking and identifying what may be a driver of a client’s pain. It is also an excellent way of the client being actively engaged and understanding why they need to do specific exercises for resolving their pain. In this Module I will demonstrate methodically the key drivers of most neck and back pain that we see daily in the clinic. This system of assessment will allow you to totally refine your treatment session. It also means you can avoid getting distracted by the patient’s stories and many variations in how they experience their pain.

It is important to practice with colleagues first to streamline your technique. After you have learnt the basics of this assessment system you may want to add in other drivers – but always use your neural tests as an indication of what is influencing what …and equally importantly keep challenging yourself to understand anatomically how and why.”

This module covers a way to use upper and lower limb neural testing to identify what may be the driver of a client’s pain. This systematic assessment and the mobilization techniques demonstrated can be used for any musculoskeletal pain. It is particularly helpful for cervical and lumbar pain as well as identifying if the TMJ is contributing to pain, distal to this joint.

Course Includes:

This is the last Module of the TMJ 101 Online Training Course.

This Clip is a stand-alone Course demonstrating practical techniques to identify the primary and secondary contributing factors (PCF/SCF) of your client’s pain.

In this module, you will learn how to streamline both your upper and lower limb neural testing to determine if the TMJ is contributing to cervical, thoracic, or lumbar spine pain.

  • 1 x 30 min Module
  • Comprehensive Course notes

Course overview:

MODULE 6: NEURAL TESTING TO IDENTIFY PCF & SCF

  • While this is the last Module of the TMJ Online Training Course, we have provided this Clip as a stand-alone Course, as you will find the techniques you learn helpful for treating any musculoskeletal pain.
  • The video clip is approximately 30 mins duration.
  • Course notes are provided with this module – view on screen or download.
  • If you are unsure of why these drivers have been chosen, these are covered in more detail in the earlier Modules; particularly for the Cervical Spine and TMJ.
  • You are not required to complete the Quiz if you are doing just this Module.
  • At the completion of this Module, if you decide to enrol in the TMJ 101 6 Modules Course; you will receive a Coupon Credit for this one Module. You will still receive all 6 Modules, as you will need to complete the short Quiz at the end of each one, to receive a Course Completion Certificate.

Learning Outcomes:

At the completion of Module 6 you will know:

  • How to do neural testing for both the upper and lower limb in sidelying, and how to refine and modify this for each client.
  • How to mobilise the TMJ, Cervical, Thoracic, Lumbar spine and SIJ very specifically, to identify the drivers of your client’s pain.
  • Understand what you need to do if one of the techniques aggravates your client’s pain
  • How you can use this system of assessment for treating any cervical or lumbar pain
